Only 2 Key Points To Business Success?
Just two? Yes, this blog post goes into only two important steps toward your business success. But don’t be fooled. These are not easy to manage. (Are you really surprised?) We all know that starting up a business means lots of hard work, and for an undetermined amount of time, you’re working for free as you get your business set up. Long hours, long days, and no money made for a period of time that varies depending on what kind of business you have.
These two key points don’t make your business or your workload easier, in fact, they may make it even harder for a while. But they work. Curious what they are? The first one is Discipline. The second one is Consistency. (I can’t do the drums on my keyboard, but my younger sister is a drummer and she could do that “ba dum dum!” with her drums and cymbals.)
Consistency and Discipline. Come on, we all know deep down that this is a big part of business, yet it’s almost never talked about. Why is it so important anyway? Lots of reasons. Ready to get into them?
Understanding Consistency and Discipline
Consistency refers to the ability to maintain a steady and uniform approach to tasks, activities, and goals over time. It involves showing up day in and day out, regardless of challenges or setbacks, and delivering reliable results consistently.
Discipline, on the other hand, is the practice of adhering to a set of rules, principles, or standards, even when faced with temptations or distractions. It requires self-control, focus, and commitment to staying on course and following through on commitments.
It’s like compounding in a bank. What you put in consistently grows exponentially over time. For more information on compounding, go here; https://silveroakfinance.com/the-power-of-compound-interest/
The Impact on Business Success
Consistency and discipline are the cornerstones of business success for several reasons:
- Builds Trust and Credibility: Consistently delivering high-quality products or services instills trust and confidence in your customers, building credibility and loyalty over time. When customers know they can rely on you to consistently meet their needs, they are more likely to choose your business over competitors.
- Fosters Reliability and Dependability: Consistency breeds reliability and dependability, essential qualities in business relationships. Whether it’s meeting deadlines, delivering on promises, or providing excellent customer service, being consistent in your actions builds a reputation for reliability that enhances your business’s reputation.
- Creates Momentum and Progress: Consistent action, no matter how small, creates momentum and propels your business forward. By making steady progress towards your goals, you build momentum that fuels further growth and success.
- Establishes Strong Habits and Routines: Discipline is the foundation of building strong habits and routines that support productivity and efficiency. By practicing discipline in your daily activities, you cultivate habits that contribute to long-term success and sustainability.
- Navigates Challenges and Adversity: Inevitably, businesses encounter challenges, setbacks, and obstacles along the way. Consistency and discipline provide the resilience and determination needed to navigate these challenges effectively, staying focused on your goals and overcoming adversity.
- Boosts Your Search Results In The Algorithms: If you are consistent with posting on your marketing platforms, then the algorithm will favor your content because it knows you are “consistent” with posting content to your followers. This results in more followers, which can lead to more traffic, which can in turn lead to more sales and clients.

Why Discipline Is Important:
The reason discipline and consistency go hand in hand is because it takes discipline to be consistent. Anyone can post on social media about their business while it’s brand new and their excited about it. But once the excitement wears off (especially if you didn’t make any sales or hardly any sales during that time you were committed) it gets hard to continue marketing your business, learning a new skill for your business, or trying to cold call clients when you’re sure the answer is going to be no anyway.
This is where discipline comes in. It’s like working out and eating healthy food. (I’m an ex-personal trainer, so forgive the analogy). People are very excited to flood the gym when it’s the New Year. They’ve got all of these resolutions to uphold after all! But what happens ninety percent of the time?
They drop out. They lose their motivation. They stop going. They’ll go tomorrow… and then they don’t. The gym is probably crowded. I won’t lose weight anyway. I have to get up early to get to work. I don’t have time.
They stop pursuing their goals because it got hard. The motivation wore off. Here’s a trade secret for you that works in all three areas; fitness, business, and personal finance. (I know, I’ve done all three.) Motivation never lasts. Like the pixie dust in Peter Pan; it wears off. The problem is; that you can’t just decide that you want to be motivated again. The motivation is what gets you started. Discipline; is what keeps you consistent.
Get the picture? Just because it can feel like you’re fighting an uphill battle sometimes, doesn’t mean that you should stop and give up. You might be approaching the gold and the success you were looking for. So be consistent with your marketing, and promote your business regularly. Be consistent with learning new skills and growing your business and your revenue. Especially if you’re just starting out. If you are just starting out; being consistent is what will get your name out there. People will see your content, only if you’re consistent. So don’t give up!
It’s like growing a plant. If you forget to water it and make sure it has what it needs, it will wither and die. You’ll never get it to grow if you don’t give it what it needs to do its job. Grow your business by giving it the water and healthy soil it needs to grow. (Which as a side-note, maybe that’s why I can never keep my plants alive. 😂)
How to Harness Their Power
Now that we understand the importance of consistency and discipline in driving business success, let’s explore how you can cultivate these qualities in your business:
- Set Clear Goals and Priorities: Define clear, achievable goals for your business and prioritize tasks that align with these objectives. Having a clear sense of purpose and direction helps you stay focused and committed to your long-term vision. Make sure they’re SMART goals so you can make sure you achieve success:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Timely
2. Develop Daily Habits and Routines: Establish daily habits and routines that support your goals and promote consistency in your actions. Whether it’s a morning routine to start your day off right or a weekly planning session to set priorities, create rituals that keep you on track. Having a daily plan and structure is a key element towards discipline and consistency. I highly recommend implementing this into your day-to-day life.
3. Hold Yourself Accountable: Accountability is key to maintaining consistency and discipline. Hold yourself accountable for your actions and commitments, and be willing to take ownership of both successes and failures. You can also get an accountability partner to make sure someone else is keeping you accountable too.
4. Stay Flexible and Adapt to Change: While consistency and discipline are essential, it’s also important to stay flexible and adapt to changing circumstances. Be open to new ideas, feedback, and opportunities for growth, while remaining steadfast in your commitment to your core values and principles.
5. Celebrate Progress and Milestones: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements along the way, no matter how small. Recognizing progress reinforces positive behaviors and motivates you to continue striving for excellence.
Conclusion:
In conclusion; the best way to achieve business success is to make sure that part of your business strategy is being consistent and disciplined with your content, advertisements, and deliveries; which will result in providing the foundation for trust, reliability, and progress. By cultivating these qualities in your business practices and mindset, you can unlock the full potential of your business and achieve your goals with confidence.
This is something that everyone should know, but it isn’t discussed enough. Too many people get excited about their business, promote it every day, then get discouraged as time goes on, and promotes less and less until they give up and decide that the business will never take off. (I was guilty of this myself years ago, so I know.)
Don’t give up on your business or on your dreams. But you have to promote your business and do the leg work to get it going. No one else is going to do it for you. You have to do it yourself.
